Post Pedia ICC Diaries

So pedia is about 4 days done, and i miss it.

I definitely learned a  lot in our 4 week turned 3 week rotation in pedia because of the very ugly weather. It was definitely a rotation that gave me a great impression of a subspecialty that is very close to my heart.

If i would put to writing the things that are memorable in this rotation this would be:

1. having a partner and yet working alone. well, there was  a peer evaluation anyway. and although it is just 5%, that is one of the things i looked forward to in ending the rotation, and perhaps one of the simple things i thought about to be able to survive, technically being on my own :)

2.the very high yield learning be it in the OPD, the ER, or during plenary discussions in staff conferences and lectures or case conferences. Learnings are definitely consultant based and i guess i am very lucky with the consultants that i have encountered with for this year. definitely those who you should look up to in the field of pediatrics. Thinking about our discussions make me feel really inspired :)

3. the very supportive residents, interns and clerks who really made the rotation easier. I guess pedia really radiates that aura of lightness, happiness and kindness since you deal with kids who can really make you smile even if they themselves are sick.  These mentors friendly faces definitely made this rotation memorable :)

4. OPD, since it's our first time to meet patients and assess them and give them advice and the corresponding management, this is really a big step to being the clinicians that we will soon be :) checking up on kids, is like playing with them and being with them all the time gives me real joy :) or maybe because i'm really biased with kids :p

5. ER, yet again, another leap :) although i really felt like a space occupying lesion in this very busy and very toxic setting, i can say that i definitely learned a lot :) doing IV lines, extracting blood and basically an overview of a part of the kind of life that we would have when we would become clerks and interns. something i don't think i will ever be fond of, or maybe because there will really be days when you don't feel like being so tired that your main goal is to get through the day. well now i can say that i've been there, i've thought about that and i've done that. and it's an awful feeling, that i should really be reminded that i should love what I do, or what I will do for a more high yield learning experience :)

there, thank you pedia  for a wonderful learning experience with you :) I will see you again next year, and once again we'll have a good time. :p

but like what one of my friends told me: 'ngayon kelangan mo malaman kung saan nangangaling ang mga bata'. hence the OB rotation. :p

i'm quite ambivalent with OB, but i know that i will eventually learn to love it or live with it. week 1 is almost done and i've been learning a lot.

Thank You for such great experiences, now i know, i definitely made a right choice :)

and things will start to change..

to start it all: my hair! haha. it's short now. like kindergarten short. haha. i like it. and i wanted to have my hair cut since summer, but because of grad pictorials, i need to postpone it. and grad pictorials are done - and i don't want to postpone it any longer. haha. so i had my hair cut yesterday afternoon after watching the Agnes of God play with my brother. (i have no decent pictures yet so you need to see me personally if you want to see it. i feel weird. i think it looks weird. haha.) and so everything follows. *** change is something inevitable. a natural phenomenon that would definitely happen in one way or another. we can't stop it (i think) but we can postpone it and i think i've postponed "that" inevitable change for too long now, and I have no other choice but to let it happen. i've already felt the urge to remove that something from my system at the start of the sem (as the change im talking about). well, i knew i need to deal wi...

The Preparation.

How do you put 100 days of preparation, 4 days of examination and 3 days of waiting in one blog entry? You can’t. Haha. So I’m making this a 3 part entry. That very long hiatus from writing and this heart full of emotions had led me craving to write my heart out. So indulge me. I don’t think I would be able to encapsulate all the emotions in that one of a kind journey which led me to where I am today. But I would still try because having that experience is something that I would love to look back to (definitely not do again) but something that I would like to read about when I feel like strolling down my memory lane. It started the day after the review center (Topnotch medical board prep) orientation where we were welcomed with a wake-up call, the board examination is about three months away - 106 days to be exact. Will it be enough? Probably. And then came the diagnostic exams where in there was really the doubt of whether it will be enough.  Parang hindi . But it was...

Life Thoughts - Life and Thoughts.

And just like that, we are married! The past few months have been heart-very-light-kind-of-nice. <3 It feels actually weird to have someone with you 24/7 at home (and not the hospital). And nope, I'm not complaining.  As usual, I've been wanting to write but not finding any inspiration until today.  I've been reflecting, more of day dreaming, while reviewing for the board exam and I just want to write down some, well, thoughts.  I grew up in an environment where there are things that should never be talked about, just because you don't want to make things worse. And it did not make things worse, but it did not make them better as well. I learned that words can make or break someone. And that if you do not have anything nice to say, it was better to shut up. And because if you say mean things, no matter how true, these may hurt people. However, this mindset did not shield me from getting hurt. This was also why I hated confrontations. Because I only thought that confr...
