I've been quite busy that I wasn't able to blog. not that it is anything new. :p
but i have lots of time in my hands right now that i choose to blog while waiting for the 16 tv series episodes that I am downloading :) because aside from being able to blog, I can update myself with the new seasons of tv series which premiered almost 3-4 weeks ago.
anyway, i was not able to write after our internal medicine rotation and it's been over for about a week and a half, just the same time that I am currently in surgery. These two modules and two departments who have been, in a way, competing on who is the better module or better department for i dont know how long.
i've learned a lot in IM, and i dont think i can say the same for surgery. ooops sorry surgery people. although, there are still 3 days before i leave surg, so maybe i'll learn something more in the next week. or that i'm just too lazy to learn because my birthday is near or because it's been 4 months of intensive studying, wala ng natitirang enthusiasm. or maybe i'm just not much of a fan of cutting into people's bodies. although, i did realize that i like to do sutures. which is kind of actually weird since i never learned how to sew clothes. ever. which, now that i think about is kind of morbid (sewing into the flesh/skin >> sewing clothes). kidding. but true.
Medicine taught us how to think. think hard. think well. have our own concept maps where we can categorize people and their symptoms and find the illness in our own database of diseases. It will take time and practice, but my IM experience is definitely a good start. although, i need a lot of backlog studying for all the pathophysiology stuff with my very poor basic sciences foundation. (blame, first year extra-curriculars. haaa.)
Surgery, is teaching us what is essential. questioning the structure and challenging what we know. It can be quite annoying, really. but rational. so yeah, two different departments/modules, and two different approaches. no need to compete on which is better. what matters is they can work hand in hand in helping the patients. besides, i don't see myself taking any of the two specializations in the future yet. sooo yeah, let's see :D

Aside from being a medical student, my organizing and leadership skills along with the whole Regionalization Students Organization were put into a test with the first Philippine Conference on Community Health. A dream that we started almost a year ago, was finally realized. It was held last Oct 20-21, 2012 at the Buenafe Auditorium of the UP College of Medicine where about 100+ students from various schools all over the nation attended and participated :)
It was a 2 day full of learning, meeting new people and having fun, all for the advocacy of serving the nation. :) I've never been more proud of my organization and of the things that we can do together and of course our advocacy. Once again, my belief in staying and being of service to my fellowmen after graduation (or even now, as a medical student) was strengthened by the various talks from different consultants and doctors and by the mere fact that there are many other students who can feel the fire in their hearts and who are actually doing things about it.

and nooow, it's rest time and i can never be any happier. :) plus it's my birthday next week :) birthdays are happy days :D
